Regarding the end of “Cathy”

I posted this as a reply to one of the dozens of disparaging posts on Facebook (and elsewhere) that I’ve seen reacting to Cathy Guisewite’s retirement of “Cathy” (and presumably, her cartooning career):

I’m not understanding all the hate toward a fellow cartoonist. Cathy was certainly not among my favorite comic strips, but I’ve gotta commend any artist who plugs away at it successfully for over three decades. Maybe she wasn’t the funniest cartoonist in the world, but she was successful because she worked her ass off. We could all learn a thing or two from her.
