Drugs & racism. Typical fare for…a Disney comic? http://is.gd/cYOA3 (via @ebertchicago)

I did a screen recording of some doodling, but it would’ve taken too long to scale down and narrate, so I just knocked out a quick sketch to vent the creative frustration I’ve felt over the past few weeks/months.

Yeesh. I gotta remember to take my meds

I’ve been away from the blog (and from cartooning, mostly) for a week now, and just looking back at my last post, I’ve really gotta lighten things up a bit.

I think what has been tripping me up about this whole process is that even though setting the goal of producing a strip isn’t all that difficult a goal, it’s still too big a step for me to be taking right now, given the other demands of my real life.

But I’ve been using that as an excuse not to create at all. l can’t let myself do that.

So, I’m gonna hook up my handy-dandy tablet, doodle a bit, and post something here before I go to sleep. It won’t be earth-shattering, but it’ll be something.

And something is a far better start than nothing at all.

The Wayward Cartoonist has thus far been a failure

In September 2008, I decided I wanted to return to cartooning by conceiving and publishing a webcomic. While I have made some negligible progress on that goal over the past 21 months, it hasn’t been nearly what I feel it should have been.

Since my current efforts are focused mostly on building my business and organizing a local comic/cartoon creators’ community, I must admit to myself that I can’t reasonably expect to do those two things, maintain my family responsibilities, and still make time to create my own strip.

Effectively, I am throwing in the towel — at least for now.

Maybe eventually I will build my business to the point where I can comfortably provide for my family. I also hope that I can see the local creators’ group to the point where it can be self-sustaining (although, I may have to recuse myself from that group, as well).

This was an experiment, and it is becoming clear that the experiment has failed. I’m just too scatterbrained to do this and everything else.
